This panel will serve as the launch of a universal carbon removal offtake contract, created by a group of leaders in CDR who have come together for a volunteer effort. This represents the first of a series of initiatives to establish standard practice and market infrastructure needed to accelerate the development of an unregulated market.
The goal is to share a starting point for procurement contracts within the strategy and procurement processes, bringing this forward in the cycle, allowing legal teams to tailor rather than create bespoke solutions. We will walk the audience through the baseline contract which will become a living document, updated based on experience, by lawyers working in the field. In its first form, the template is accompanied by a guide. A logical evolution over time will be to create a simple tool that allows buyers to enter purchase details and generate a draft agreement.
Key Topics:
- How a durable CDR purchasing agreement is different from standard procurement practice
- Creating standard practice on risk accountability
- Adapting risk expectations to accommodate immaturity of industry and suppliers
