Carbon removals are moving up the COP agenda, but their social and environmental co-benefits are still too often treated as a side note. Enhanced rock weathering (ERW) can deliver durable removals and healthier soils, more resilient food systems, and better livelihoods for farmers,  yet these links are not fully reflected in how the Paris Agreement is being implemented, from NDCs to Article 6 cooperation.

This session asks what it really means to design “carbon removal for people and planet”. Bringing together project developers, global climate champions and Brazilian leadership, we will explore how co-benefits can be built into rules, finance and claims so that ERW and other land-based CDR support development, adaptation and resilience rather than compete with them.

What we’ll cover

  • Aligning CDR with Paris implementation: integrating co-benefit–rich CDR into NDCs and Article 6 in ways that support food systems and resilience.
  • Co-benefits by design: making soil health, yields and community outcomes core to project design, safeguards and MRV — not just co-benefit “add-ons”.
  • Farmer-first implementation: enabling participation by smallholders and cooperatives, especially in the Global South, through capacity, infrastructure and fair risk-sharing.
  • Finance and claims: how public policy, development finance and corporate buyers can back ERW and other agri-CDR with high-integrity, people-centred investment and claims.
