Municipal Power: How to Realize Carbon Sink Cities?

November 14 @ 13:30 to 15:00 -03
Hybrid Event
Free
Hosted by City CDR Initiative & High-Level Climate Champions

This 1.5hr event on ‘Municipal Power: How to Realize Carbon Sink Cities?’ is a call for local leadership on carbon dioxide removal development. Building on two events organized on urban CDR at the Finnish Pavilion on November 10th and 11th, the discussion will focus on the systemic approaches and urban paradigm shifts needed to shift cities from being centers of extraction to engines of restoration.

As we explore the opportunities and pitfalls to realizing Carbon Sink Cities, we will specifically look at the urban transformation pathways and municipal interventions to make natural and artificial carbon sinks ubiquitous. Working from the Vision Document on Carbon Sink Cities released by the City CDR Initiative at New York Climate Week, the event will be the platform to launch two new technical reports on urban CDR implementation.

What we’ll cover

  • Carbon Sink Cities as a new climate restoration imperative.
  • Different roles of cities in the CDR stakeholder ecosystem.
  • Municipal powers to advance urban CDR and carbon sinks.
