For more than two decades, The Climate Center has been a leader in making climate solutions a reality in California at speed and scale. We are a think-tank, do-tank working to turn bold ideas into action for a climate-safe future. Beginning in 2001, we emerged as a leader in the rapid growth of Community Choice Energy in California, providing clean electricity managed by local, nonprofit government agencies as opposed to corporate utilities. Twenty-five years later, 25 Community Choice Energy agencies serve more than 15 million Californians with 80 to 90 percent greenhouse gas-free electricity while supporting thousands of good jobs. From our success scaling Community Choice Energy across California, we know what it takes to turn good ideas into policy. That’s why we launched the Climate-Safe California campaign in 2019. Endorsed by more than 2,000 businesses, elected officials, non-profits, and individuals, Climate-Safe California offers climate solutions at the speed and scale that science demands. It’s a set of policies that would allow California to remove more climate pollution from the atmosphere than we emit while creating thousands of jobs in the process. Today, we work across California with state lawmakers, environmentalists, businesses, local governments, labor unions, and environmental justice leaders to deliver science-based climate solutions that improve quality of life for all Californians. We’ve helped pass dozens of laws to accelerate climate action, grow the clean energy economy, hold corporate polluters accountable, and scale up carbon drawdown. Our work has catalyzed historic investment in clean energy, led California to enact nation-leading targets for natural climate solutions, exposed Big Oil’s lies, and more.
